Breaking her silence on the IT department raids against her, actor Taapsee Pannu on March 6 put out three tweets — on an “alleged bungalow” in Paris, the “alleged receipt” of ₹5 crore and her “memory of 2013 raid”.

On March 3, the Income Tax Department searched the homes and offices of Ms. Pannu and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap as well as his partners who launched the now shuttered production house Phantom Films.

Ms. Pannu posted a three-point statement on Twitter and also took a jibe at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement that the actor was raided in 2013 as well.

“Three days of intense search of 3 things primarily 1.The keys of the ‘alleged’ bungalow that I apparently own in Paris. Because summer holidays are around the corner,” read the first post.

The second said, “2. The ‘alleged’ receipt worth 5 crores to frame n keep for future pitching coz I’ve been refused that money before.” The third dealt with Ms. Sitharaman’s comment. “3. My memory of 2013 raid that happened with me according to our honourable Finance Minister P.S- ‘not so sasti’ anymore.” Ms. Sitharaman on March 6 said the same people were raided in 2013 as well, but no issue was made out then as it is being done now. Refusing to comment on individual cases, she said it is in the national interest to know if some evasion is happening.

The searches targeting Ms. Pannu and Mr. Kashyap, known for their outspoken views on a range of issues, is part of a tax evasion probe against Phantom Films. They also covered Reliance Entertainment group CEO Shibhasish Sarkar and some executives of celebrity and talent management companies KWAN and Exceed, officials said.

The others searched included some employees of Phantom Films, which was dissolved in 2018, and its then promoters Mr. Kashyap, director-producer Vikramaditya Motwane, producer Vikas Bahl and producer-distributor Madhu Mantena.

The business transactions of films made under the banner of Phantom Films are also being probed Mr. Kashyap and Ms. Pannu, who worked together in the 2018 film “Manmarziyaan”, are currently filming “Dobaara”, a thriller.

Yashraj Mukhate’s Journey Has Been a Musical Ride: Gifted Keyboard at 3 to Viral ‘Pawri’ Mashup

[ad_1]

Yashraj Mukhate’s musical twists to dialogues ranging from TV shows to reality shows have been a social media rage since he broke into the scene with his hilarious and quirky rendition of Kokilaben’s dialogue of ‘Rasode mein Kaun tha‘. Be it the now iconic ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya‘ Rasoda scene or Shehnaaz Gill’s Tommy one-liner or the latest ‘Pawri mashup’, Mukhate has managed to make his fans guffaw to it.

Aurangabad-born Mukhate’s rising popularity has been attributed to the fact that he has managed at creating very quirky and fun content spontaneously that has managed to strike a chord with everyone, especially the millennials. In a conversation with Humans of Bombay, the music composer has opened up about his journey till now and his love for music which helped him choose a unique path to his social media fame.

Talking about when he got his first musical instrument, Mukhate says, “I was 3 when Baba got me a keyboard; I fell in love with music that day. I’d carry it with me everywhere and would play it every chance I got. Even then, I knew I wanted to be a musician.”

But his parents insisted he finish his education before he ventured into composing music and he did the same.

Yashraj says that even though he pursued engineering in college, his evenings consisted of learning instruments and everything he could about music from Youtube. Not having proper instruments never deterred him and he created music out of bowls or chocolate wrappers. He soon started making song covers and posted them on the web.

Work started trickling in the form of jingles and even though it was a small way to start, Yashraj says he was content doing work for music. And then it happened. He says, “I saw the Kokila Ben’s video, the dialogue already had a rhythm to it, so I worked on the dialogue for a day and posted it online the next morning. I switched off my phone after that.”

The response to his video was something so huge that Yashraj said it was a lot to process. From Smriti Irani to Anurag Kashyap, he received high praises from everyone. Interviews, collaborations, invites to shows as guests, the young musician witnessed it all.

But Mukhate is not naïve. He knows how social media functions so he didn’t expect the craze to go on for so long. But videos like the recent ‘Pawri ho rhi hai’ again went viral and the social media crowd clearly loves and wants more from him.

He says, “The small surprises I keep getting in the form of Tapsee Pannu recreating Biggini Shoot or Raveena Tandon Ma’am making a reel on ‘Tommy’ keep me going.” Mukhate is ready to accept whatever surprises or curveballs life hurls at him after this. But for now, as our favourite saying goes, “Abhi toh pawri ho rahi hai!”

AK Vs AK Movie Review: Anil Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap Shine In Vikramaditya Motwane’s Terrific Film

AK Vs AK

Cast: Anil Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, Yogita Bihani

Director: Vikramaditya Motwane

Easily one of the finest Hindi films of the year, and definitely the most unique with a mainstream star in it, AK Vs AK has Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap playing themselves amid heightened emotions, surreal moments and twisted plots. It’s different, enjoyable, trippy and a total blur between reality and fiction.

It all starts when an ageing superstar AK (Anil Kapoor) gets into a heated argument with another AK (Anurag Kashyap), a self-obsessed filmmaker, and Kashyap kidnaps Kapoor’s daughter, actress Sonam Kapoor (Sonam Kapoor). Then begins a chase which, in a way, tries to bring forth the paradoxes of a Bollywood star’s life and how they’re expected to ‘act’ even during the depressing times.

Director Vikramaditya Motwane, whose placements of handheld camera with gloomy surround lighting in Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, impressed me a lot, is in an even better mood here as he gets voyeuristic, sensational and under the skin. I forgot to tell you that Motwane has a representative in Yogita Bihani, Kashyap’s assistant in the film, who is recording Kapoor’s moves.

Of course, some restrains have been maintained but Motwane has stretched till he could as Kapoor and Kashyap flaunt self-deprecating humour almost to the verge of unsettling the viewers. For example, Kapoor taunts Bihani of being Kashyap’s girlfriend, or Harshvardhan Kapoor, Anil Kapoor’s son, trying to impress Kashyap with his acting chops in the middle of a crisis.

The other side of a star life has also been expressed as onlookers keep asking Kapoor to do his famous Ram Lakhan steps, a song that came more than three decades ago. The perception of a Bollywood star as the ultimate public influencer has been challenged. It’s so ironic and tragic to see Kapoor dancing to please the audience in the middle of the search for his missing daughter.

There are enough Kashyap jokes as well, like the one about his brother being the most commercially successful filmmaker in the family. At times, it even attempts to look beyond Kashyap’s tough exterior of being an outspoken, perennially angry person. It’s hard to find out how much of this is ‘acting’. Full marks to Motwane for making his actors comfortable enough to make them visit the dark alleys of their subconscious where there is no right and wrong, only the immediate reaction to clear and present danger.

Interestingly, despite the handheld camera recording everything, it’s not exactly a fly on the wall documentation. The filmmaker has quite strong opinions about many developments. Motwane, in no uncertain terms, pushes his characters to make bold comments about Bollywood, insider versus outsider and lack of resources. Needless to say, such ploys add depth to AK Vs AK.

Kapoor has excelled. It’s funny to even write this because he is playing himself but we don’t know how much of this is not script-bound! Kashyap has once again shown his love for unique material, and he has bared all, sometimes literally. While Harshvardhan Kapoor shines in a cameo, Yogita Bihani also fits the bill.

Another lovely film from Motwane’s repertoire. It reaches where mainstream Bollywood films hesitate to go.
