ReSkills EdTech, a Malaysian live learning platform, has raised $1.5 million in an angel funding round from a group of private angel investors led by JSF Platinum.

The company plans to use the fresh capital to boost growth plans and stabilize its expansion, especially in the Southeast Asian region.

Founded in 2020 by Jin Tan, ReSkills is one of the fastest-growing online live learning platforms that allows Celcom subscribers to enjoy free access to instructor-led live learning courses every single day for fifteen months. The startup runs in collaborations with governments, corporations, universities, colleges, schools, as well as associations and training providers.

ReSkills aims to empower millions of Malaysians by reskilling and upskilling them, to help boost their professional and personal growth. It believes in impactful and transformative learning, where the exchange of knowledge is with the experts in real-time.

Speaking about the company and the new funding, Jin Tan, Chief Executive Officer of ReSkills, said,

“We firmly believe that education is a basic human right and should be accessible and affordable for everyone. These funds are a testament from the investment community that ReSkills can achieve that mission. With this Covid pandemic, the online learning trend had matured into a new dimension as well.”

Tan said the angel round was closed in October and with it, the company plans to enhance and further develop its platform. He said the company will also focus on marketing efforts in terms of user acquisition and recruitment of coaches.

ReSkills, in partnership with Celcom, encourages the public to bump up their knowledge and skills to collectively grow together in this challenging time. It connects aspiring learners to Master Coaches in achieving a deeper mastery of a particular subject as they analyze case studies and apply the lessons learned in engaging instructor-led sessions.

Within a year of operations, ReSkills has empowered over 100,000 registered learners by reskilling and upskilling them — boosting professional and personal growth, career enhancement, and business entrepreneurship learning despite the world being in a state of pandemic crisis. The startup has grown from a handful of coaches to 169 from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and India. It claims to have delivered 300 OnLive classes and transacted more than a thousand learning hours in five languages.

ReSkills is also eyeing growth in its ReSkills Hubs’ global operations. It was first established in Indonesia in August 2021 followed by the Philippines (September), Thailand and Vietnam (November), and will establish in India in December.
