EdTech unicorn Unacademy has acquired Gurugram-based Swiflearn, an online learning platform that provides live face-to-face online tuitions for CBSE and ICSE students from grades 1 to 10.

While the company did not disclose the amount of the deal, a press statement said that the acquisition is in line with Unacademy’s plans to strengthen its position in the K-12 category and optimize its product offerings in the space.

Founded in 2019 by Abhinav Agarwal and Anand Bakode, both IIT Bombay graduates, Swiflearn is an online platform for academic courses and provides a personalised home tuition experience from top-quality teachers. The platform aims to transform offline tuition into a completely online avatar.

Swiflearn offers online tuition classes for English, Maths, and Science, and other areas of learning like Mental Ability, Life Skills, and Vedic Maths. The startup uses the latest technology, proven pedagogy techniques, and mode of teaching with a focus on laying a strong conceptual foundation for kids’ higher education.

Commenting on the acquisition, Gaurav Munjal, CEO & Co-founder at Unacademy Group, said,

“Swiflearn is building a high impact personalized and scalable learning product that will change the way students learn. Abhinav, Anand, and the team have developed a great product that is seeing tremendous traction. We have a shared vision to make quality education accessible and affordable for students of all ages, and we are delighted to have them as part of the Unacademy Group.”

Swiflearn currently has over 1,500 teachers. It hosts more than 30,000 classes every month and has over 120,000 registered learners on its platform. The Gurugram-based company had last raised $3 million (₹21.9 crore) in its pre-Series A funding round in June 2021 led by Stellaris Venture Partners, Venture Highway, along with few angel investors including Varun Alagh (founder of Mamaearth), Ramakant Sharma (founder of Livspace), and Alok Mittal (Founder of Indifi).

Abhinav Agarwal, Co-founder of Swiflearn, said,

“We are very excited to join Unacademy, since our strengths of pedagogy, content, and personalized classes combined with Unacademy’s product, brand and reach will make it a strong value proposition in the K-12 market. Anand, I, and the team of Swiflearn are looking forward to working closely with the entire team at Unacademy and learning from them.”

Unacademy was founded by Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh, and Roman Saini in 2015, and has a network of over 60,000 registered educators and over 62 million learners on its platform. The company has been on an acquisition spree since last year. It acquired Handa Ka Funda, a Jaipur-based online coaching platform for various competitive exams in March this year, and acquired a majority stake in TapChief, a professional networking and future-of-work platform, in February. Unacademy had earlier acquired Delhi-based online exam preparation platform Kreatryx in April last year, CodeChef in June, Chandigarh-based medical prep platform PrepLadder and a majority stake in K-12 learning platform Mastree in July, UPSC test prep platform Coursavy in September, and NeoStencil in December.
