78 per cent of severe COVID patients are overweight or obese: Study | The Times of India

As per the latest study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, a large majority of patients who end up with severe COVID cases have one thing in common, they are overweight or have been diagnosed with obesity.

The study was published on March 8 in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. 148,494 adults who were diagnosed with COVID infection were analysed. Out of these, 72, 491 people were hospitalised. Among the hospitalised patients, 28.3 per cent were overweight and 50.2 per cent were obese. This means 78.5 per cent of people who had been hospitalised due to COVID-19 were either overweight or obese.
