GuruLab, a Malaysia-based EdTech startup that provides tutors with learning analytics tools, has raised $1 million in its seed round led by Wright Partner’s founding partner, Tan Toi Ngee.
The fresh funding will be utilized to strengthen its analytics platform and expand its offerings with Malaysia’s education system. It also plans to “aggressively” grow its education and tech team and expand into other subjects and markets in the region.
Founded in 2021 by former McKinsey and company consultant Eer Kai Song and Vicky Tan, who earlier founded learning firms Veritas Academy and Co:Ed Learning, GuruLab provides students with personalized lessons, starting with livestreamed English classes. It creates actionable insights from student engagement on the platform to improve both the students and tutors, while keeping parents informed.
Speaking about the company, Co-founder of GuruLab, Eer Kai Song, said, “Currently, the company has already onboarded a team of over 10 masters and degree holders, as well as teachers with decades of experience.”
He further added, “Many within our team have returned home after an overseas education to help Malaysian students because we see first hand the opportunities that a good education can bring.”
GuruLab believes that education is important and should be personalized for each student. The startup was built by passionate educators who graduated from global top universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. With their experiences, the platform also believes it can help future students learn better.
