PIL seeks fresh elections if Nota polls highest votes: Supreme Court issues notice to Centre, EC | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Centre and the Election Commission of India (EC) on a PIL seeking fresh elections if the number of votes polled under None Of The Above (Nota) exceeds the votes polled for the winning candidate.
On the PIL seeking voters’ right to reject all candidates running in an election, the SC expressed concern over seats being left vacant on account of Nota securing more votes than the candidates.
The court reluctantly issued the notice and said that an influential political party “may get many candidates rejected and would make it difficult for Parliament, with many vacancies so arising, to function.”
