Apple discontinues its pricey iMac Pro, available ‘while supplies last’

In a surprise move, Apple is discontinuing the iMac Pro all-in-one desktop computer. Although the computer is still available to purchase as of now, the iMac Pro will be removed once the inventory is gone forever. 9to5Mac first reported that the iMac Pro will be discontinued, and later the company confirmed to CNET about the discontinuation of the iMac Pro.

Not one model but Apple has discontinued the entire iMac Pro variants. That being said, the base model of the iMac Pro is still listed on Apple India’s store for Rs 464,900 and ships in around 2-3 weeks. It is unlikely Apple will replenish the stock, as the website clearly states “While supplies last.” The existing iMac Pro features a 5K display, Intel Xeon processor, AMD Vega graphics, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and a custom Apple T2 chip for encrypted keys.

When Apple announced the iMac Pro in 2017, it was touted as the most powerful Mac ever. The iMac Pro will always be remembered as a niche computer, targeting only pro consumers and graphic designers. Now that Apple has discontinued the build-to-order high-end iMac Pro, the company instead recommends consumers to opt for the 27-inch iMac (2020) which can be customised as per needs.

It is very likely Apple will launch a new lineup of iMacs this year. Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously indicated that Apple does have plans to bring all-new iMacs, including a refreshed model of iMac Pro. If Apple is gearing to launch the iMac Pro with its own silicon, the discontinuation of the current lineup is justified. There’s currently no word on when Apple introduces new iMacs in the market. However, some reports indicate that Apple might launch the new iMacs as soon as March this year.

A recent leak by YouTuber Jon Prosser revealed that the next-generation iMac will have thinner bezels, and a flat back reminiscent of the Pro Display XDR. The 2021 iMac Pro will reportedly be made available in five colour options, mirroring the colours of the iPad Air.

Apple May Finally Ditch the iPhone Notch in Favour of a Hole-Punch Design in 2022: Kuo

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Apple’s iPhone has been the most loyal towards the notch – a design element quickly adapted and moved on from by Android manufacturers across the world. Now, it seems that this will change with the 2022 iPhone, as a recent report has said that the iPhone 14 Pro (unconfirmed) will finally ditch the notch in favour of a hole-punch display. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had, earlier this month, said in a research note that the iPhone 13 Pro successor will be Apple’s main iPhone model to abandon the notch and adopt the hole-punch display.

Apple may expand the hole-punch display design across all iPhone models after an initial adaption on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022. This, Kuo said in his research note, will depend on the production yield. The research note from TF securities analyst was first procured by AppleInsider. Apart from the hole-punch design, the iPhone 14 models are also expected to come with an upgraded selfie camera at the front with autofocus support.

The Apple analyst had recently said that Apple could be planning to launch its foldable iPhone in 2023 and that the company’s plans to put a USB typ-C port on iPhone instead of a lightning port may have been dropped in favour of the portless design, making MagSafe the charging standard for Apple moving ahead.

Kuo had earlier also predicted that Apple is planning to bring the iPhone SE 3 or iPhone SE (2022) with 5G support. The iPhone SE is reported to come with an upgraded processor, in order to support 5G connectivity. Renders of the iPhone SE 3 have also surfaced in the past, hinting at a flat-edged hole-punch design on the affordable iPhone.

Apple Watch outsells every other smartwatch in India: Report – Times of India

If a report by IDC is to be believed, then more Indians are wearing smartwatches than anytime before. Driving the ‘craze’ for smartwatches in India is none other than Apple. According to the IDC report, the watch segment in India grew significantly. As per the report, “Watches saw a 139.3% YoY growth with 2.6 million unit shipments in 2020.”
Leading the smartwatch category is none other than Apple. Apple, according to IDC, has a 51% market share in the smartwatch category. IDC classifies smartwatches as devices “which can run third-party applications on the device itself”.
Jaipal Singh, associate research manager, client devices, IDC India, says, “The high cost associated with wearable watches is not much of a challenge anymore. Also, the watch form factor is now seen as more appealing to the consumers, and vendors will leverage this shift by further expanding their watches portfolio in coming quarters”.
Apple did expand its Watch portfolio in 2020 and launched two models simultaneously for the first time. The Apple Watch SE — the more ‘affordable’ variant — and the Watch Series 6 were launched in 2020. While the Watch Series 6 starts at Rs 40,990, the Watch SE starts at Rs 29,990.
In addition to this, Apple didn’t discontinue its popular Watch Series 3. Although a three-year-old model, the Watch Series 3 is meant to be the entry-point for buyers in the Apple Watch ecosystem. Priced at Rs 20,990, the Watch Series 3 is the cheapest Apple Watch you can buy in India. During festive or other sales on e-commerce sites, there’s a good chance for buyers to snag it anywhere close to Rs 15,000.

Australian Man Sues Apple As iPhone X Explodes in Pocket, Causing Second-Degree Burns

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

An Australian scientists is suing Apple after an iPhone X exploded in his pocket, causing second-degree burns. The incident took place in 2019 and Melbourne-based Robert De Rose claims that he has reported the issue to Apple but has received no response from the Cupertino-based giant. De Rose wanted to get compensated for the injury and the loss he faced due to the alleged burning of his iPhone. The lawsuit has been filed in Australia’s County Court and Apple is also reported to be investigating the issue.

The year-old iPhone X exploded in De Rose’s pocket back in 2019 when he was sitting in his office. “I heard a faint pop sound, followed by a fizz and then I felt intense pain on my right leg, so I immediately jumped up and realised it was my phone,” he was quoted by 7News as saying. The exploded smartphone cause second-degree burns to De Rose’s thigh and burnt the pocket of the pants he was wearing. He told 7News that his skin has peeled back. De Rose reported the incident to Apple but received no response. He then decided to file the lawsuit, seeking compensation from the company.

Apart from De Rose, an Australian law firm named Carbone lawyers also told 7News that it would be representing another Apple user’s case who claimed that an overheating Apple Watch burned his wrist. An Apple spokesperson told 7News that the company takes consumer safety extremely seriously and confirmed that the two complaints are being investigated.

This is not the first time an Apple device has been reported to have cause burning injuries to a user. A 10 month-old iPhone X had allegedly exploded when a user was in the process of installing a software update in Washington, US in November 2018. Apart from that, a three-week-old iPhone XS Max had reportedly caught fire in the pocket of a man in Ohio in December 2018.

Smartphones and other gadgets can catch fire due to the presence of a lithium-ion battery that is used to power them. Hence, it is advised that users avoid overcharging and keeping their smartphones in their back pockets as those mostly turn out to be the reason for burns and explosions of gadgets.

Apple iPad Pro 2021’s New Processor Will Be ‘on Par’ With M1 Chipset on the Latest Macs

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Apple is reportedly working on new iPad Pro models with mini-LED display that is said to offer brighter and more colourful picture quality. The company is also planning to upgrade the processor that is “on par” with the latest M1 processor on the new MacBook Air 13 (2020), MacBook Pro 13, and Mac Mini (2020). The latest development comes from notable Apple analyst and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The analyst in a video adds that the upcoming iPad Pro models (or at the least 12.9-inch model) will be thicker than the predecessor due to the presence of the new display tech.

The new iPad Pro model(s) will reportedly launch later this month or in April, as per old leaks. Apple had launched the 2020 edition of the iPad Pro in two sizes (11-inch and 12.9-inch) with the LiDAR scanner and A12Z Bionic chipset in March last year. Gurman in the video does not highlight the exact processor to be used in the latest model, though it said to bring 5G connectivity support. The new processor will also unlock better camera capabilities, the analyst adds. It is unclear whether the iPad Pro will retain the Bionic-series chipset or a new processor from the Apple M1 or M-series. The Cupertino-based tech giant is also rumoured to unveil new iPad Pro models with the OLED panel later this year.

To recall, the iPad Pro 2020 models come with a 12-megapixel wide camera and a 10-megapixel ultra-wide camera besides the LiDAR sensor. Its price in India starts at Rs 71,900 for the 11-inch model, while the 12-inch variant carries a price tag of starting Rs 89,900. The video claims that there could be a new entry-level iPad coming later this year, though there is no substantial information around the product. There is no information regarding the iPad mini from Gurman, which hasn’t seen an update since 2019.

Some M1-Powered MacBook Owners Concerned About SSDs’ Lifespan After Noticing Unusually High Usage

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Apple has been using SSD storage for the Mac models for quite some time, and as expected, the new M1-powered MacBook Air 13, MacBook Pro 13, and Mac Mini are using the same storage tech. Recently, some M1-Mac users took to social media to raise concerns about the health of their computer due to the same storage solution. According to posts on Twitter and other forums, select users have been reporting an overuse of the SSD for writing and reading data on the newly released M1 Mac device. The concerning factor here is that in case the SSD storage SSD that is soldered to the logic board (or motherboard) wears out, the entire board will get replaced, and that won’t come cheap. It may affect the overall health of the computer as well.

According to multiple posts (via iMore), select professional users of the new M1 Macbooks are experiencing high drive writes over a relatively short time. The most severe cases have “consumed” about 10-13 percent of the maximum warrantable TBW value of the SSD that technically refers to the lifespan of the storage drive. Another Twitter user, Longhorn’s (via MacRumors) M1 Mac has already consumed one percent of the SSD’s TBW value, a post showed. Typically, SSDs can last for years and users may not need to worry about them until they upgrade their system.

However, it is also important to note that almost all posts available online do not detail what the devices are used for and how the new M1-powered Macs are allotting exceptionally high read and write speeds. Apple has also not provided any details over the concern flooding various social media platforms. Apple may likely address the issue via the next macOS Big Sur update slated to roll out in the coming weeks.

The iPhone maker had initially aimed to help COPAN go from making several thousand kits per week to 1 million kits a week, with the firms also looking to create at least 50 new jobs in Southern California.

  • FOLLOW US ON:

Apple Inc said on Monday nasal swab maker COPAN Diagnostics has shipped 15 million COVID-19 sample collection kits to hospitals in California, Texas and other US states, bolstered by manufacturing help from the tech giant. Apple awarded $10 million here to the Murrieta, California-based company in May last year and sent engineers to help revamp the production process at a time when shortages of testing supplies had slowed efforts to track the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The iPhone maker had initially aimed to help COPAN go from making several thousand kits per week to 1 million kits a week, with the firms also looking to create at least 50 new jobs in Southern California. Apple did not say on Monday whether the 1-million-kit-per-week goal had been hit, but said COPAN had increased its production by nearly 4,000 percent, opened a new facility and hired 250 employees.

“The driver behind that was that everybody wanted to make a difference within a time frame where we could make a difference,” Normal Sharples, COPAN’s chief executive, said in a statement.
