“I’m a driver and lost my job during the lockdown. We were surviving on money borrowed from relatives and I was facing a challenge to pay the fees in the private school. Therefore, in last July, I got my children enrolled in a government school. Now, the private school is refusing to give the SLC without clearing the dues,” he said.
What comes as a relief for many like Kumar is a recently issued order by the government that states that schools can allot roll numbers to the students without asking for the SLCs. The education department has directed all the officers to apprise the school heads that they can update the information of all such students in the MIS portal and the provisional student registration number (SRN) given at the time of admission is valid without the requirement of the SLC.
” Teachers can use the SRN to update all relevant information and documents of the students in the MIS portal,” said an official.
The move comes after several parents filed complaints alleging harassment from the private schools in releasing SLCs.
