College, universities in Uttar Pradesh to reopen from Monday

All colleges and universities in Uttar Pradesh will reopen from February 15, news agency ANI reported. The colleges and universities in the state have been shut since March as one of the measures announced by the government to fight against Covid-19 pandemic. However, the reopened universities will be different.

Universities and colleges in UP, like every other higher education institute in India, will follow Covid-19 protocol. This means, wearing masks, maintaining social distancing norms will be mandatory. The institutes will have to sanitise properly before reopening. Attendance in the universities and colleges will not be mandatory and online classes will continue, as per the UGC.

Colleges and universities across the country have started reopening and the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued special guidelines for such higher education institutes.

Aming guidelines, UGC has asked colleges to mandate regular visits of a counsellor to ensure mental wellness and stress-free campuses. Universities and colleges have also been asked to restrict the outside experts on campuses, study tours, field works etc.

Further, not more than 50 per cent of the total students should be present at any point of time. Preference will be given to students of all research programmes and postgraduate students in science and technology programmes. For the rest of the streams, and foreign students, online classes will continue, as per guidelines.

MBSE HSLC exams from April 1, check date sheet

Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) will hold the high school leaving certificate (HSLC) or class 10 exams from April 1. The detailed date sheet for the MBSE HSLC board exams has been released at the official website mbse.edu.in. The exam will be held from 10 am to 1 pm amid Covid-19 precautions.

The practical exams will be held from April 16 to 20. Last year, the MBSE HLSC exams were held from February 17 to March 3. This year, the schedule has been deferred across boards due to the pandemic. This year’s theory exams will be held as per the following schedule –

April 1 – English

April 5 – Social Science

April 7 – Home Science / IIT theory / Civics and economics / commercial studies

April 9 – Mizo / altenrative English / Hindi / Nepali / Bengali / Manipuri

April 12 – Science

April 15 – Mathematics

In the last year’s MBSE HSLC exams, a total of 18,594 candidates appeared of which 12,324 passed. The overall pass percentage was 68.33 per cent.

Bihar Board BSEB intermediate exams for 13.5 lakh students over

The Bihar School Education Board (BSEB), Patna has concluded the board exams for or class 12. The exams had started on February 1 across 1473 exam centres and concluded on February 13. About 13.50 lakh students had registered to appeared for the exam despite the pandemic. The board claims to have ensured proper sanitisation and Covid-19 related protocol.

To ensure safety during the exams, the Bihar Board had set up a 24 hours control room. Candidates had to undergo two levels of frisking as an anti-cheating measure. Only candidates who were free of any cheating material of any kind and without possession of any barred items were allowed to enter the exam hall, as per the board.

Due to the pandemic, Bihar Board had given 100 per cent choice or alternate for almost all the questions in the exam. A total of 10 sets of each paper were drafted as an anti-cheating measure.

Just like last year, the board has become the first among academic boards to hold the exams. Subsequently, it is expected that the board would also declare the result sooner than the rest of the boards. Most of the boards are holding exams in May and the result is expected by July. The academic session has been postponed due to the pandemic.

AP private universities mulling 35% seats reserved under govt quota

Private universities in Andhra Pradesh can have 35 per cent seats reserved under government quota. Focus will be on providing quality education to the students who are socially and financially backward. The proposal was floated in a review meeting headed by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today. The meeting reviewed status of higher education and discussed amending AP Private University Act 2006, and enquired on reopening of colleges and conducting of classes post COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to set the highest standards for newly setting up private universities and converting existing colleges into private universities, as per an official statement.

He said there should be joint certification with 200 best educational institutions of the world and it should last for five years and this should be considered as eligible criteria for recognising a college as a private university. It is decided to introduce the amendment bill of AP Private University Act-2006 in coming Assembly session. Discussing aided colleges, it was said that they should be handed over to either government or private totally if they cannot run them independently, the official statement read.

The chief minister further said revolutionary changes will come up in the education and skill sectors with the introduction of unlimited internet access in every village along with providing laptops to students at affordable prices through schemes like Amma Vodi and Vasati Devena. He said there should be no place for recommendations in university recruitments and they should be held transparently and qualified staff should be present in universities.

Haryana BSEH DElEd exams 2021: The Board of school education, Haryana (BSEH) today cancelled the first year and second year D.El.Ed re-appear exam 2021. The first, second year re-appear exams were scheduled to commence from February 19, but was cancelled due to administrative reasons, board chairman Jagbir Singh said.

The board will announce the exam dates soon.

The D.El.Ed is a two-year programme to train teachers. Differently abled candidates — visually-impaired, dyslexia and spastic, speak and hearing impaired, and permanently disabled candidates — will get service of amanuensis and extra time of 20 minutes in an hour in each exam.

GMAT restores analytical writing assessment section

The GMAT has restored its online writing assessment section for its online exam. Earlier, GMAC — the organising administration — had omitted the section for its online exam which now has been restored.

“The AWA section has remained an integral part of the GMAT exam, providing business schools with important insight and candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to communicate ideas. In addition to the introduction of the AWA section to the GMAT online exam, other enhancements include the ability to preview unofficial test scores immediately; additional and extended breaks; and the convenience to select the order in which the sections of the exam are taken,” GMAC said in an official statement.

“There was interest from schools to include the AWA online, and we worked to make this happen to support application cycle seasonality. We’ll continue to make investments that support our schools and test-takers with enhanced and comparable online and test center exam experiences,” it added.

For those who wanted to appear for the exam, the registration for the GMAT online exam will open on February 17 for appointment dates beginning April 8. Testing appointments remain available for the current version of the GMAT online exam through April 7.

Since the GMAT online exam launched, over 45,000 exams have been delivered in more than 150 countries, territories, and special administrative regions in support of global demand, GMAC informed.

Global teacher prize winner Rainjitsinh Disale to guide Maharashtra teachers in workshops

Rainjitsinh Disale, the winner of Global Teacher Prize 2020, will mentor teachers in Maharashtra through ‘teacher inspiration’ workshops on the use of modern technology in education, state Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif said on Wednesday.

“Through these workshops, teachers in the state will gain new confidence and work with more vigour. This initiative will also help change the way communities look at government schools,” a statement quoted Mushrif as saying.

Disale, who works as a teacher at the Zilla Parishad primary school at Paritewadi in Solapur district, won the prize last year in recognition of his efforts for promoting education of girls and triggering a QR code-based “textbook revolution”.

Disale has been teaching students from over 1,400 schools in more than 143 countries through the novel initiative of the ‘virtual field trip’, it said, adding that he has mentored over 16,000 teachers to impart knowledge through technology.

CBSE Class 10, 12 board exams 2021 registration deadline extended for private candidates

CBSE class 10, 12 board exams 2021: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the last date to apply for class 10 and 12 board exams by private candidates. Those who have not yet applied can do so at cbse.gov.in. Earlier the registration process was to end on February 22 which now will end on February 25, as per the official notice by CBSE.

The board will hold the class 10 and 12 exams from May 4 to June 10. The class 12 exam will be conducted in two shifts to ensure most exams in the shortest time. In 2020, the exam schedule was of 45 days, however, in 2021 exam schedule is of 39 days. Accordingly, six days less is taken to conduct the exams in 2021. However, the board claims to have given “sufficient” time between exams of two main subjects to help students prepare.

The syllabus has been reduced by 30 per cent because of the loss of instructional hours due to the pandemic. The result will be announced by July 15, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had informed earlier. The exam will also have more application-based questions than earlier.

CBSE had last year introduced MCQs or application-based questions. The Ministry of Education, in an official notice, informed that the number of competency-based questions for classes 10 and 12 board exams will increase by 10 per cent every year in a phased manner.

Further, the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 suggests that CBSE to offer two-level examinations for English and Sanskrit languages. Currently, the mathematics exam is conducted in two-level — standard and basic for class 10.

IGNOU launches diploma in value education

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today launched diploma programme in value education (DPVE). The candidates with higher secondary (10+2) pass certificate can apply for the programme at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

The course will focus on to inculcate positive values in teachers, professionals, students, parents and the community by integrating values in their transactional process of teaching and learning.

Recently, the university has launched PG diploma in Corporate Social Responsibility (PGDCSR) through open and distance mode. The candidates with a minimum Bachelor’s degree can apply for the diploma programme. The online application process will be closed on February 28.

ICAI’s ARF to offer employability training for youth, launches accounts assistant scheme

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)‘s Accounting Research Foundation (ARF) — which has supported students to carry research in the areas of accounting, auditing, capital markets, fiscal policies, monetary policies etc — will now also offer training to make class 12 pass students employable. The ICAI has on Wednesday launched an accounts assistant scheme in this regard.

Under the scheme, students will be offered training to develop skill sets in the subject of accounting, tax compliances and related topics and to develop expertise on book-keeping, GST, and Income Tax compliances. Students who will clear this scheme will get the chance to intern with experience CAs, organisations etc. The experience gained by the students would help them to get jobs locally and through ICAI job portal, they will have ample career opportunities.

Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Singh Thakur — who launched the pilot project — said, “This Pilot Project of ICAI ARF is being launched initially for local youth of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. This scheme is going to help the students who are above the age of 21 years and will train the local youth for book keeping, GST filing, and understanding the tax procedures of GST. This is a major step towards employment of the local youth and the fee structure is also were reasonable.”

“The scheme will offer skill-based training and evaluation through a rigorous process controlled by ICAI ARF. The scheme may be offered jointly with an NGO/Trust, to mobilise youth at the ground level,” the ICAI said in an official statement.
