While in the Osmania University, he had led students’ movements, and earned name as people’s lawyer while practising.

Telangana Legislative Assembly on Tuesday paid rich tributes to the departed sitting legislator Nomula Narasimhaiah, who passed away in December last year.

Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao moved the condolence motion expressing deep sense of sorrow at the demise of the TRS legislator who had been elected from Nagarjunasagar constituency in 2018.

Drawing from his native district’s history of movements, Narasimhaiah dedicated his life right since student days to the welfare of people and society, Mr.Chandrashekhar Rao said.

Born into a poor family at Palem village of Nakrekal mandal in Nalgonda district, Narasimhaiah went on to finish post-graduation and acquired a degree in law. While in the Osmania University, he had led students’ movements, and earned name as people’s lawyer while practising.

Joining CPI(M) ranks, Narasimhaiah began his political journey as MPP, and rose to being elected a legislator. His speeches in Legislative Assembly were full of idiom and wit typical of Telangana dialect, the Chief Minister reminisced.

Narasimhaiah always fought for irrigation rights of undivided Nalgonda district, and for farmers on the left bank canal of Nagarjuna Sagar. Differing with the CPI(M) over its stance on Telangana as separate state, Narasimhaiah later joined TRS.

Terming Narasimhaiah as the representative of the underdog, Mr.Chandrasekhar Rao said he could never forget the latter’s congeniality and commitment to values.

Minister for Energy G.Jagadeeshwar recalled his association with Narasimhaiah who, he said, had been committed to the poor and downtrodden.

Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development K.T.Rama Rao said the deceased leader had been very keen on development of Nandikonda and Alair, the newly constituted municipalities in his constituency. Younger generation of political leaders had a lot of inspiration to draw from Narasimhaiah whose demise is an irreparable loss for the poor in Nalgonda district and the TRS party, he said.

Minister, Animal Husbandry, Talasani Srinivas Yadav recalled that the house had seen Mr.Narasimhaiah’s commitment towards the poor people a number of times, and his contribution to the cause of shepherd communities is laudable.

Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Errabelli Dayakar Rao reminisced his bonding with the departed leader, and said the latter would fondly call him ‘mama’ (uncle). Though born in poverty, Narasimhaiah rose to become an important leader.

Minister for Roads & Transport Vemula Prashanth Reddy said Narasimhaiah served a long time for people, first as MPP and then twice as MLA. He spoke and conducted himself with dignity in the House, he said.

R.Ravindra Kumar, Jaffer Hussain, Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, Raja Singh, B.Malaiah Yadav, Chirumarthi Lingaiah, Podem Veeraiah, and Jaipal Yadav were the other members who paid tribute to the deceased MLA.

The House observed two-minute silence for Narasimhaiah, and for former members Gunda Mallesh, Naini Narasimha Reddy, Kamatam Ram Reddy, Katikaneni Madhusudan Rao, Katta Venkata Narasaiah, Dugyala Srinivasa Rao, Chengal Baganna, and K.Veera Reddy who had passed away.

A 7-year-old boy from Hyderabad became one of the youngest to have scaled the highest mountain peak of Africa Mt Kilimanjaro om March 6 after drawing inspiration from his cousins’ trekking experiences.

Talking about his experience with ANI, Virat Chandra said that he was too enthralled after hearing all the stories of climbing mountain from his cousins and wanted to try something similar. After having a discussion with his parents regarding the same, his parents approached a coach named Bharath.

Virat’s mother also spoke of a similar story. She narrated when his cousins were at Rudugaira Mountains in Uttarakhand for a trekking trip, Virat had a video call with them. “He was fascinated When Virat saw the place in the video call, he became fascinated. Even he wanted to try something like that,” said Virat’s mother.

Once Virat started off with his training, the coach said he was way too much into it. The 7-year-old completed all the rigorous tasks including running, rock climbing and so on.

The journey had ultimately begun on March 5. However, precautions were taken as he is still a child. In the middle of the trek, they had taken out time to sleep, rest before starting again.

“I was scared but all I wanted was to reach my goal,” said Virat Chandra.

“We took all precautions and had decided that we’d return if he feels uneasy but he made us proud,” said the coach.

On March 6, they finally reached the Uhuru Peak of Mt Kilimanjaro.

Earlier in March, 9-year-old girl Kadapala Rithvika Sri from Andhra Pradesh became the youngest girl in Asia to have conquered Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.

In 2018, October, six-year-old boy Coaltan Tanner from Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the US became the youngest person ever to climb Kilimanjaro. He was born on September 18th, 2012, meaning he was just six years, one month and a few days when he made it to Uhuru Peak.

The government plans to sell its residual stake in already privatised Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports as part of the ambitious Rs 2.5 lakh crore asset monetisation pipeline identified to raise additional resources, sources said. Sale of Airport Authority of India’s (AAI) remaining stake in the four airports as also 13 more airports have been identified for privatisation in 2021-22 fiscal, two people aware of deliberations at Empowered Committee of Secretaries last month said.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation will obtain requisite approvals for divestment of equity stake of AAI in the respective joint ventures running Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports, they said adding the issue is likely to go to the Cabinet for approval in the next few days. For the 13 AAI airports identified for privatisation, the possibility of clubbing of profitable and non-profitable airports will be explored to make more attractive packages, sources said.

In the first round of airports’ privatisation under the Narendra Modi government, the Adani Group bagged contracts for six airports Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati last year. The AAI, which works under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, owns and manages more than 100 airports across the country.

While in Mumbai International Airport, Adani Group holds 74 per cent stake, the remaining 26 per cent stake is with AAI. In Delhi International Airport, GMR Group holds 54 per cent, Airports Authority of India holds 26 per cent, while Fraport AG and Eraman Malaysia holds 10 per cent stake each.

AAI along with the Government of Andhra Pradesh holds 26 per cent in Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. It holds a similar stake in Bangalore International Airport along with the Karnataka Government. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the 2021-22 Budget speech had said that monetising operating public infrastructure assets is a very important financing option for new infrastructure construction.

A National Monetisation Pipeline of potential brownfield infrastructure assets will be launched and an asset monetisation dashboard will also be created for tracking the progress and to provide visibility to investors, she had said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had last month said the government is targeting monetising 100 assets such as oil and gas pipelines, which can draw a massive Rs 2.5 lakh crore of investment.

The government is targeting Rs 1.75 lakh crore from divestment proceeds in the next fiscal year beginning April 1.
