NEW DELHI: Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan on Thursday labelled Dinesh Karthik‘s 29-run knock in the final of the Nidahas Trophy as one of the best innings ever played by an Indian.
It was on March 18, 2018, when wicket-keeper batsman Karthik’s carnage helped India snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the final of the Nidahas Trophy against Bangladesh at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Reliving the moments, Dinesh Karthik shared a post from the final of the Nidahas Trophy and wrote: “A night to remember”.
To this tweet, Irfan Pathan replied: “One of the best inning by an Indian.”

India beat Bangladesh by four wickets in the final match of the tournament as Karthik’s flat-six off the last ball of the match took the Rohit Sharma-led side home. In the final, Bangladesh had scored a challenging 166 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Team India found themselves reeling at 98 for the loss of four wickets.
The wicket of Manish Pandey in the 18th over and Vijay Shankar‘s sluggish innings only added to the pressure as the required run-rate increased. With 34 runs still needed of the last two overs, in walked Karthik and bludgeoned the Bangladesh bowling attack. The wicket-keeper batsman hammered the first three balls to the boundary as India scored 22 runs from the penultimate over.
On the last ball when Men in Blue needed five runs, Karthik smashed a flat six over extra cover to hand India a victory not many could imagine. His eight-ball knock included two fours and three sixes and he was adjudged Man of the Match.
Karthik will now be seen in action for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled to commence from April 9. KKR failed to qualify for the playoffs last season and Karthik finished with 169 runs from 14 games. The cash-rich league will kick off with Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locking horns. KKR will square off against SunRisers Hyderabad in their first match of the tournament on April 11.

RAIPUR: Former Indian cricketers featuring in the Road Safety World Series T20 on Tuesday celebrated the ninth anniversary of legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 international centuries.
Tendulkar on March 16, 2012, became the only batsman in the history of cricket to register 100 international centuries. He had achieved the feat against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan on Tuesday shared a picture from the celebration. In the picture, Irfan and Yusuf Pathan can be seen along with Tendulkar in the cake cutting ceremony.

“I had the best seat in the house when @sachin_rt paaji scored 100th International and today as well:),” Irfan tweeted.

Sent in to bat first, India had witnessed a bad start as the side lost opener Gautam Gambhir pretty early in the innings. However, Tendulkar found support in Virat Kohli and the duo formed a 113-run stand. After Kohli’s dismissal, Suresh Raina came out in the middle.
Continuing his brilliant form, Tendulkar brought up his 100th ton in the 44th over of the innings. The Master Blaster went on to play a knock of 114 runs from 147 balls and took India’s total to 289/5 in the allotted fifty overs. However, Bangladesh managed to chase down India’s total in the final over of the innings to register a victory by five wickets.
Last week, Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh turned back the clock and took Raipur by storm in their inimitable style as India Legends registered a thumping 57-run win over South Africa in the Road Safety World Series T20. With this win, India Legends also qualified for the semi-final of the event.

NEW DELHI: Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan feels that “pace was the difference” between the two teams as the Virat Kohli-led India lost the first T20I against England by eight wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
SCORECARD
Chasing a paltry 125, Jason Roy and Jos Buttler starred with the bat scoring 49 and 28 respectively. In the end, Jonny Bairstow (26*) and Dawid Malan (24*) took the visitors over the line.
Taking to Twitter Pathan wrote, “What was the reason India lost the first t20 vs England? I think PACE was the difference.”

English pacers took six of the seven Indian wickets that fell. Jofra Archer returned with figures of 3-23 in his fours overs that earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Mark Wood, Chris Jordan and all-rounder Ben Stokes picked a wicket each.
On the other hand, Indian seamers Shardul Thakur and comeback-man Bhuvneshwar Kumar failed to get any English wicket.

India had gone into the game with three frontline spinners — Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Yuzvendra Chahal — while England went in with four frontline seamers — Sam Curran, Jordon, Wood, Archer — besides all-rounder Stokes.
In the post-match press conference, Shreyas Iyer said that the plan of his side is always to play maximum spinners as it is their strength.
England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first. Iyer played a lone hand as he scored 67 runs while batting at number five and helped India post a score of 124/7 in the allotted twenty overs.

India and England will now lock horns in the second T20I at the same venue on Sunday.
