In a new twist to the controversial CD case involving Ramesh Jarkiholi, the former Karnataka water resource minister, on Tuesday, he told media persons that he was innocent and that the purported CD was “100% fake”. In his 18-minute-long interaction with media persons, the youngest of the Jarkiholi brothers claimed that this whole issue was a conspiracy against him.

He also claimed that he was aware about the CD much in advance and had even informed the high command regarding the same.

“There is no truth in this CD. It’s a conspiracy and I’m innocent. In fact I got to know about the CD four month’s back and told my brother Balachandra that I had done nothing wrong and it wasn’t me. I even got a call from high command asking to to take legal help. But I said I would fight it out,” the Belgavi MLA claimed.

Jarkiholi went on to add that this whole incident had hurt his wife and children the most. He said that he would avenge the honour of his extended family and supporters in Belgavi.

“I’m told ₹5 crore was exchanged in this whole conspiracy . Also two flats were given in a foreign country… I don’t know much details but whoever has out me in this situation today, I will not let him go until I send him to jail”.

Claiming innocence, Jarkiholi almost choked, telling media that the alleged CD was very unlike his character. He said he was a religious man who frequented temples and was in fact at a temple itself, when the so called CD was leaked to the media.

“I was in temple that evening. I came back and thought about the outcomes. My resignation was my own decision. I waited one night and the gave my resignation the next morning by 9:30am. CM didn’t ask me for it” he added.

Jarkiholi said that this whole conspiracy was strategised around the Orion Mall and Yeshwanthpur areas of Bengaluru.

The Jarkiholi Brothers have approached the CM and home minister Basavaj Bommai asking the govt to hand over the case to the CID at the earliest.

Vijay Hazare Trophy: Karnataka thrash Kerala, ton-up Padikkal sends message to selectors | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Young opener Devdutt Padikkal sent a strong message to the national selectors before England ODIs as he slammed his fourth consecutive List A ton as Karnataka beat Kerala by 80 runs in a quarter-final game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Monday.
Karnataka rode on skipper Ravikumar Samarth‘s knock of 192 off 158 balls and a stroke-filled 101 by 20-year-old left-handed Padikkal (off 119 balls) to post an imposing 338/3 and then bundled out the opposition for 258.
Kerala’s decision to put Karnataka into bat at the Air Force ground backfired badly, as Samarth and Padikkal toyed with their attack with a massive 249-run partnership for the first wicket.
Samarth, a 28-year-old right-hander, hammered 22 boundaries and three sixes in his 158-ball knock.
He completed his century in 112 balls and was aggressive right from the start, while Padikkal hammered 10 boundaries and two maximums.
It was a Samarth-Padikkal show as Karnataka were going strong at 196/0 after 35 overs having laid the foundation for a mammoth total.
While Padikkal continued his fabulous show in the national ODI tournament and in the process scored his 4th consecutive List A century and became the first Indian to do so, Samarth surpassed veteran Wasim Jaffer’s unbeaten 170 to register the highest score in a Vijay Hazare knock-out match.
After Padikkal fell in the 43rd over, Samarth upped the ante while Manish Pandey (34 not out) played his role to perfection. Samarth fell in the 49th over but had ensured that his side went past the 315-run mark.
For Kerala, right-arm medium pacer Basil NP (3/57) was the pick of the bowlers, while others had an off-day. Former India speedster S Sreesanth conceded 73 runs in his 10 overs.
Chasing 339, Kerala was in a spot of bother at 15/2 as pacer Ronit More (5/36) dismissed Robin Uthappa (2) and Rohan Kunnummal (2) early. M Prasidh Krisha (1/22) removed Vishnu Vinod (28) as Kerala slumped to 52/3.
Two-down Vathsal Govind (92; 6×4, 3×6) and skipper Sachin Baby (27) did the repair job with their 59-run fourth wicket stand, but offie K Gowtham (2/73) did the trick by sending back Baby as Kerala was reeling at 111/4.
Vathsal, who was then joined by Mohammed Azharuddeen (52; 5×4, 2×6), had different plans as they took on the opposition bowlers, and forged a 92-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Seasoned leggie Shreyas Gopal (2/64), however, brought Karnataka back into the contest, by taking two quick wickets.
First, he dismissed Azharuddeen and then Akshay Chandran, while Govind became More’s third victim, as the three dismissal paved the way for Karnataka’s win.
Kerala was eventually bowled out for 258.
Brief Scores: Karnataka 338/3 (Ravikumar Samarth 192, Devdutt Padikkal 101; Basil NP 3/57) beat Kerala 258 (Vathsal Govind 92; M Azharuddeen 52; Ronit More 5/36, Shreyas Gopal 2/64) by 80 runs.

“We have not yet ascertained the cause of the fire, but it is usually man-made. The fire occurred around the edge of the forest from where the safari track starts. Amid fears of rising Covid-19 cases in the last couple of days, Karnataka Education Minister S Suresh Kumar announced on Monday that the Class X (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) board examinations would be held in the state from June 21 to July 5, which is a week`s difference compared to the tentative timetable that was announced last month.

The revised timetable for the SSLC 2020-21 examinations is as follows:

June 21: First language (Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Urdu, English, Sanskrit)

June 24: Mathematics

June 28: Science

June 30: Third language (Hindi, Kannada, English, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Sanskrit, Konkani, Tulu)

July 2: Second language (English, Kannada)

July 5: Social Science

Kumar said that the revised timetable was necessitated due to a clash with the new second PUC timetable (Class XII) which is scheduled to be held from May 24 to June 16. The tentative SSLC timetable had been scheduled for June 14 to 25.

In response to a question, Kumar said that sufficient holidays will be given although there is just 10 days time between the last SSLC examination and the start of the next academic year.

He added that the education department is still finalising the number of days the students will get for their summer vacation.

The board may have to re-conduct supplementary examinations for those who fail or want to improve their marks.

Every year nearly 8.5 lakh students appear for the SSLC examination which is generally conducted in March/April, but this time it has been shifted to June-July.

The board re-conducts the same examination in the month of June for the benefit of the students who fail in the main examinations. Nearly 2.20 lakh students take the supplementary examinations every year.

Exotic earthworm found in Karnataka for the first time

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

An exotic and highly invasive earthworm — Amynthas alexandri of the Megascolecidae family has been collected and reported for the first time from Karnataka. Its original home is believed to be Southeast Asia.

It has been found to be distributed at four sites in the State — Hosabale and Hosanagara in Shivamogga district, Kaimara in Chikkamagaluru district, and Konaje in Dakshina Kannada.

Earlier, the same earthworm was recorded in 15 States/Union Territories in India, according to a study published in the January issue of the Canadian journal Megadrilogica, an international scientific journal devoted to publishing earthworm studies from across the world.

The study — Amynthas alexandri Beddarad, 1901 (Clitellata: Megascolecidae), a new addition to the earthworm fauna of Karnataka State, Southern India — was conducted and reported in the journal by four researchers, including two from Mangalore University.

They were Vivek Hasyagar, a research scholar in the Department of Applied Zoology, Mangalore University; K.S. Sreepada, chairman and researcher, Department of Applied Zoology, Mangalore University; S. Prasanth Narayanan, researcher, Advanced Centre of Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala; and John W. Reynolds, research associate, New Brunswick Museum, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Prof. Sreepada and Mr. Hasyagar told The Hindu that the distribution of Amynthas alexandri was also found at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada recently.

The four authors concluded in the journal: “…being large, fast-moving and highly invasive in nature, this species has practically inhabited all the districts of Kerala. As has happened in Kerala, soon it may invade the northern portions of the Western Ghats in Karnataka.”

Amynthas alexandri is a medium-to-large-sized worm and its colour is brownish in light and dark at dorsum. Its length varies from 132 mm to 169 mm, and it is 5 mm to 6 mm in diameter.

Earthworms are important for maintaining the soil fertility of forests, grasslands, and agro-ecosystems.

The origins

The original home of Amynthas alexandri earthworms is believed to be Southeast Asia, though the type of specimen observed for the first time in India by Beddard in 1901 had its origin in Kolkata.

Their distribution in Asia earlier was in China, Myanmar, Pakistan, Thailand, Europe and England.

Their distribution in India earlier was in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
