The tech world is also brewing with more smartphones. From budget value-for-money smartphones to performance-oriented flagship devices, new smartphones can often be difficult to track, especially if you plan on buying a new phone in the near future. However, we have compiled a list of phones that are launching soon in India. Check out which of these phones you’d like to buy.

OnePlus 9 Series

Succeeding the popular OnePlus 8 and 8T series, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are two of the most awaited smartphones right now. The devices, the looks for which were recently revealed officially, also mark the first time OnePlus will be joining hands with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad.

Leaks around the phones have revealed a good chunk of information about the two phones. Both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset. The OnePlus 9 Other features like the 65W fast charging, 120Hz refresh rate and an all-new multi-camera setup are also expected in the two phones. The brand is also rumoured to launch a third affordable device which as per rumours, could be called the OnePlus 9E, 9R or 9 Lite. Not a lot is known about this phone at the moment.

The OnePlus 9 Series is set to launch on March 23, 2021. The live stream of the launch event will be available on the OnePlus YouTube channel and will start at 8:30 pm IST.

Realme 8 Series

Realme moved from the budget segment to the midrange and upper midrange segment with the Realme 6, and the same trend was followed by the updated Realme 7 series. Now with the Realme 8 series, the brand is expected to deliver more high-end features at mid-range price points than the series is known for.

This includes a 108MP main camera which is expected on at least one variant of the new Realme 8 series, likely the 8 Pro. The vanilla 8 is expected to feature a 64MP main camera instead. The phones are also expected to feature AMOLED display panels and in-display fingerprint sensors.  While the Realme 8 is tipped to feature a MediaTek Helio G95 chipset, we expect the Realme 8 Pro to feature a Snapdragon chipset. However, 5G support is still not confirmed.

Realme had revealed in an interview with Indian Express that the brand will bring 5G to all phones that launch for above Rs 20,000. However, the Realme 8 series is expected to be priced below that, so we may not see 5G support unless the 8 Pro does come out with a top-end 5G variant. The Realme 8 series is set to launch in India on March 24 at 7:30 pm IST and will be available to live stream on the brand’s YouTube channel.

Poco X3 Pro

The Poco X3 Pro is being teased by Poco for days now. The phone, essentially a Pro version of the midrange Poco X3, is expected to feature a flagship chipset but at a mid-range price point, similar to the Poco F1 that launched years ago. Not a lot of concrete details are known about the Poco X3 Pro yet, but leaks have pointed to the presence of an older Snapdragon 800 series chip.

Apart from the chipset, the phone is expected to feature specifications that are pretty close to the original Poco X3. These include the design with a centre-aligned front camera, a large circular camera module and a 48MP quad-camera layout on the back.

The Poco X3 Pro is set to launch on March 22 globally, but an India-only launch is set for March 30. The live stream for the launch will be available on Poco India’s YouTube channel.

Micromax In 1

Indian smartphone brand Micromax and its new ‘In’ series plays big on the ‘Made in India’ factor. Its next budget-oriented phone, the Micromax In 1 is expected to pack features to go toe-to-toe with other budget-oriented devices from brands like Redmi, Poco and Realme. As per leaks, the Micromax IN 1 is expected to feature the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset, along with 6GB RAM, a 5,000mAh battery and 128GB storage.

The phone is also expected to carry a 6.67-inch FHD+ display and a 48MP main camera along with two 2MP lenses on the back. The Micromax IN 1 is set to launch on March 19 and the launch event for the same will be available to stream on the brand’s website.

Vivo X60 series

The Vivo X60 series will succeed the brand’s X50 series and is expected to improve more on the camera performance, which has been the USP of the X series. The brand has also confirmed its partnership with Carl Zeiss for the phone’s camera optics. The new X60 series is also expected to come with 5G support and leaks suggest we could see three phones, including the Vivo X60, X60 Pro and an X60 Pro+.

Expected specifications of the X60 series include the Snapdragon 870 chipset, and a Snapdragon 888 on the Pro+ model. The vanilla X60 is expected to launch with a 48MP triple camera setup on the back with a 13MP ultrawide and telephoto sensor. The X60 Pro is expected to feature a fourth periscope lens to this setup, while the Pro+ is expected to sport a 50MP primary sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide sensor, a 32MP portrait lens and an 8MP periscope lens.

The Vivo X60 series will be unveiled in India on March 25, and we should see more details around the phone a few days earlier on March 22, when the phone will be launched in Malaysia.

Samsung Galaxy A52, A72

The Samsung Galaxy A52 and A72 have been surfacing on the web for a couple of weeks. The brand officially unveiled the two new mid-range devices globally in its Galaxy Awesome Unpacked event that was held yesterday on March 17. However, the availability of both devices in India is not yet confirmed. Many expect the Galaxy A52 is coming to the Indian market first.

The Galaxy A52 features a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with 90Hz/120Hz (120Hz on 5G variant only) support, 8GB RAM, and a 64MP quad-camera setup. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 720G on the 4G variant and a Snapdragon 750G on the 5G variant. There is also a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging.

The Galaxy A72 meanwhile, features a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 90Hz support, the Snapdragon 720G chipset, up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. The phone also sports a 64MP quad-camera setup on the back and a 32MP front camera. A 5000mAh battery on the phone now supports 25W fast charging. The Samsung Galaxy A series of phones have no fixed launch date in India as of now, but the phones are expected to launch soon.

NEW DELHI: Smartphone maker OnePlus will launch its next-generation OnePlus 9 series smartphones on March 23. Now, the company has also confirmed that it will launch its first smartwatch at the same event.
The company CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus Watch will not run on Google’s WearOS.
Lau confirmed this to a OnePlus forum member that the upcoming smartwatch will run on an unnamed RTOS (real-time operating system).
Pete Lau said, “We chose to go with a smart wear operating system developed based on RTOS because we believe it provides you a smooth and reliable experience while offering a great battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we’ve been hearing from people looking to buy a smartwatch.”
This means that the OnePlus Watch will offer a similar user experience like the Amazfit and Zepp smartwatches. The software on these wearables come with limited apps and offer no support for third-party apps. On the other hand, these watches offer long lasting battery life.
Apart from the operating system, the company has also confirmed that the OnePlus Watch will come with a burdenless design. The wearable will also offer seamless connectivity between OnePlus smartphones, audio devices and OnePlus TV. The company has also mentioned that the smartwatch will come with an affordable price tag.
Apart from this, some of the earlier leaks revealed that the OnePlus Watch will come with a square-shaped dial and it will come in Black and Silver colour options.
Rumours also suggest that the device will come with an IP68 rating which will make the smartwatch dust and water-resistant. The smartwatch is also said to come with a heart rate and SpO2 monitor. It is also said to offer features like automatic wear detection, sleep tracking and a swimming mode.

OnePlus 9 Pro display details officially revealed: All you need to know

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

OnePlus 9 Pro display details have been officially revealed by the company ahead of the March 23 launch. In a blog post, the company confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro will offer a Low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display with support for 120Hz refresh rate. The panel will operate at QHD+ or 2K resolution, similar to the OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone.

To offer the best possible experience, the company is offering top-level hardware to users with OnePlus 9 Pro. The phone also offers support for native 10-bit colour depth, 1300 nits peak brightness and HDR10+. The device even supports MEMC (Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation), so the sports content can be viewed at ultra-smooth frame rates.

The OnePlus 9 Pro will have a 360Hz touch response, which the company is calling “Hyper Touch.” OnePlus is promising this feature will cut up to 30ms of latency in action games, which will help offer a better gaming experience. OnePlus is asserting that the Hyper Touch support will offer up to 6X faster syncing speed between the display and the processor compared to other devices.

Comparatively, both OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra sports a 120Hz display with 240Hz touch sampling rate. It is worth noting that Xiaomi’s Mi 11 offers the fastest response with a 480Hz touch response. It is still good to have 360Hz touch response rate as you rarely get it.

OnePlus is asserting that Hyper Touch supports games like Call of Duty Mobile, League of Legends, PUBG, and Brawl Stars. It is promising that the other games will get the Hyper Touch support in near the future.

One of the noted features that the OnePlus 9 Pro will have is the LTPO OLED display that dynamically adapts the refresh rate from 120Hz to as low as 1Hz, depending on the requirement. This will further save a good amount of battery life when you look at static content.

OnePlus is claiming that the OnePlus 9 Pro’s display “uses up to 50 percent less power while continuously delivering a super smooth 120Hz viewing experience when needed.” Comparatively, the lowest refresh rate of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is 10Hz.

OnePlus-Hasselblad: Mobile cameras will never be the same again, here’s why

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Neil Armstrong was the first man to ever walk on the moon and we believe this because it is backed by proof. And while the first man on the moon is celebrated vigorously, the camera that witnessed and captured it all often takes a backseat, the Hasselblad. It is massive being a part something as historic as man’s first landing on the moon but to be the device that was able to capture the moment and bring back evidence of the event actually happening? That is as legendary as it gets.

The year was 1962 and people at NASA were testing and trying different cameras that would be able to shoulder the massive responsibility of capturing extra terrestrial data but all in vain. It was then that Walter Schirra, a photography enthusiast who himself owned a Hasselblad 500 and who was himself soon to be an astronaut suggested that the organisation gave Hasselblad a try.

A specially designed variant of the camera was taken on the Mercury 8 (MA-) in October 1962 that delivered high quality images across six orbits of the Earth. This was the first of many associations between NASA and Hasselblad. So amazing were the results that NASA started using the Hasselblad cameras on a regular basis. They did require some modification but they were ‘the’ cameras for space. In 1965, NASA requested for a motor-driven camera, the first of its kind and Hasselblad delivered it in the shape of 500 EL.

In the same year, the first space walk was captured using a Hasselblad camera and one of the most famous images of space ever was captured: astronaut Edward H White floating in space with the Earth behind, and a Hasselblad in the frame as well. The Hasselblad became a household name as the images taken of the space by astronauts started making it to newspapers and magazines.

On July 20, 1969, the name Hasselblad got etched in human history forever as it captured man’s first steps on the moon. When the Apollo 11 mission landed on the moon and Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the moon, something silver strapped to his chest made this journey with him. It was a Hasselblad Data Camera. There was another camera on the space module which recorded the first steps of humankind on the moon and there is no prize for guessing which camera was it. The Hasselblad.

The mission was difficult but so was recording it. Especially in an environment where conditions varied from 120° C in the sun and minus 65°C in the shade. The lack of gravity and lighting conditions did not help the cause either. But just like the men on the mission, Hasselblad pulled through and captured history in making by delivering great photographs. The camera proved its mettle and it’s no surprise that they have become such an integral part of space photography. There are twelve Hasselblad cameras on the surface of the moon still.

Capturing mankind’s first step on the moon and brilliant space photography might have made it famous but Hasselblad has proven to be just as acclaimed in the terrestrial settings. The Swedish brand has become synonymous with cameras that not only deliver high quality results but are also incredibly resilient which is why it is the preferred choice of many celebrated photographers.

Now imagine getting something as epic as this on your smartphone. Seems like a dream, right? But if you set your heart and mind on Never Settling then this dream will turn into reality soon, all thanks to OnePlus.

We might not know what the upcoming OnePlus will look like or what all its spec sheet will contain but the brand has confirmed that it is partnering with Hasselblad for the upcoming OnePlus 9 which means the OnePlus 9 is definitely going to pack some out of the world cameras (pun intended).

Pete Lau, Founder, CEO and Chief Product Officer, OnePlus summed up the impact of the collaboration when he said, “OnePlus and Hasselblad have entered a three-year strategic partnership, with the goal that together, in full collaboration, we will reset the standards for mobile photography.”

And the feelings seem to be mutual. Jon Diele, Vice President, Hasselblad, has gone on record saying, “We’re already seeing some really outstanding results. If the developments we’ve already made are any indication, I can’t wait to see what else we’ll be able to achieve together with OnePlus over the coming years. I believe we’re on the brink of a new generation of mobile photography. Working together, Hasselblad and OnePlus can lead the industry by co- developing the best smartphone cameras.”

Imagine, the new OnePlus will come with technology that literally gave humankind a glimpse of space and moon and in the coming months you will be able to use it on your smartphone. If that does not take you to the moon, we do not know what will.

The videos will experience an improvement with DOL-HDR in the upcoming series.

The display on the Pro variant is curved and the resolution is expected to be QHD+ whereas OnePlus 9 may sport a flat display.

IE App Reviews: ‘Oxygen Updater’ brings you the fastest OnePlus updates

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

OnePlus phones are pretty popular in India’s upper mid-range and affordable-flagship market. Apart from the fact that OnePlus phones pack great hardware, a key factor in the brand’s phones is its clean software experience via OxygenOS. Feature-packed, yet minimal where it needs to be, OxygenOS is made even better by quick updates.

However, like most Android software updates across brands, OxygenOS updates are also rolled out in batches. This allows the brand to test new software for critical bugs on a small number of users, before rolling it out to the masses. But what if you like to live on the edge and want to be amongst the first to try out those new system updates?  That’s where Oxygen Updater comes in. Here are a few quick details.

Name: Oxygen Updater
Availability: Android (Only for OnePlus phones)
Price: Free (ad-free version costs Rs 99)

Oxygen Updater allows you to manually download official system update files, be it entire Android version updates, or smaller security patch updates. With support for all OnePlus phones and different installation methods, including extra perks for rooted users, we tried Oxygen Updater for a few weeks and here’s what we think.

Easy-to-grasp interface

Oxygen Updater has a clean user in line with the OxygenOS design language, almost making the third-party app feel like a part of OxygenOS, well, OxygenOS 10 to be precise. Setting up Oxygen Updater is a breeze irrespective of what OnePlus Phone you have. The app supports all phones from the first OnePlus One to the recent Nord N10. We tried the app out with our OnePlus Nord.

Once the app has shown you its capabilities and auto-selected your device, it will also ask you if you have a rooted device. Increased compatibility with root access phones will allow the app to automate a few of the subsequent steps. However, it works just fine without root access as well.

Oxygen Updater, OnePlus OxygenOS, Oxygen OS, OnePlus system update, The Oxygen Updater setup screen is easy to understand and automatically detects the correct device in use. (Express Photo)

Once set up, neat tabs on the bottom include your main screen, where any new updates will pop up and the device screen, where you can get all the info you need about your own phone. There is also a dedicated News tab that features only OnePlus-related news.

Finally, a settings tab lets you tweak some more minor changes. The app does feature ads on the bottom, but thankfully, they’re not the annoying, page-scaling kind. Regardless, you can go ad-free with a one-time purchase of Rs 99.

Installing updates

Every time a new update for your OnePlus phone is released, the app sources the exact update file for your phone, immediately after OnePlus has made it official. These update files are the same files that are downloaded when you choose your normal system update way.

Oxygen Updater also claims these manual update files are authentic and not tampered with. Here’s an extract from the app’s FAQs section.

Question: Can I verify if the downloaded update is authentic?
Response: Oxygen updater does this automatically for you. The app server obtains the MD5 checksum of the file from OnePlus. This takes place when importing the update, right before you receive a push notification of it. When you use the app, the app obtains the MD5 checksum from the app server using a secure connection. When downloading, the file is verified using this checksum. If the file has been tampered with or was incomplete, an error will be shown and the file will be deleted from your device.

Depending on whether you chose incremental updates or full-zip updates, the file size of the download could be anywhere from less than 100MB to about 3GB. What kind of update (small security patch update, large Android system update) also determines the download size.

Once the files are downloaded, the app will let you know what to do next in a series of instructions. These involve manually heading to the System Updates section and choosing your downloaded file to manually install it as an update.

Following that, you restart your phone and the update is installed.

Oxygen Updater, OnePlus OxygenOS, Oxygen OS, OnePlus system update, The Oxygen Updater interface provides an easy-to-use tab layout. (Express Photo)

Support for OnePlus Open Beta builds

Oxygen Updater also supports OnePlus phones’ open beta build cycles. While this isn’t for everyone, those who use the official open beta builds on their OnePlus phones to try out new major updates weeks or months ahead of time will find the feature very handy.

Just like you can choose between incremental and full stable builds, you can also choose incremental or full beta builds as your type of download in the settings. Once you do that, you will be notified for beta updates instead of stable updates, and the installation procedure remains the same.

Note that OnePlus allows you to go from stable to beta builds without losing your data, but coming back to stable builds from beta builds will require you to format your internal storage, leading to everything being erased.

Is Oxygen Updater for you?

If you’re someone who doesn’t care about being the first to receive system updates when they’re out, Oxygen Updater might not excite you. However, if you do like experiencing newer software the moment it is released, OnePlus Updater could be a boon for you. You will always be one of the first people to try out any new update without needing to sign up for some beta programme.

The app also eliminates the dreaded waiting period until you get the OTA notification because as soon as the update is out, you’ll likely have it on the app on the same day. Oxygen Updater is also pretty handy for content creators and testers who can use it to try the latest OxygenOS builds, both stable and beta, before anyone else.

The risks associated with software issues or bugs on a new OxygenOS build are still there since the app simply gets you the files that OnePlus has released; testing it for bugs is up to you, the user. Further, unless you know what you’re doing, its best to stay away from the open beta builds, which have a higher probability of being buggy.

Trash or Pass?

All aspects considered, Oxygen Updater is a solid addition to your arsenal of apps if you’re an enthusiast with a OnePlus device. We tried the app for a few weeks, using it to upgrade our OnePlus Nord from OxygenOS 10.5.10 to 10.5.11, and later to the stable OxygenOS 11 build for the OnePlus Nord. Our experience was smooth, easy and free of any hiccups. While its target audience might be a small portion of OnePlus users, it does what it does best, and so far, flawlessly. The app gets a solid pass from us.

Back in 2020, when Apple decided to get rid of the chargers in the box, it was expected to become a new trend in the smartphone industry. Soon after Apple, its arch-rival Samsung too followed the lead.
However, OnePlus is not going to join the bandwagon — at least for now — as the CEO of the company has confirmed that the company plans to ship chargers inside the box this year.
Apart from this, no other detail about the charging technology or battery capacity has been revealed so it’s not known if there will be any improvements over the 65W charger that the company ships with OnePlus 8T.
The company has also shown off the official look of what is being claimed to be OnePlus 9 Pro. The handset seen in the video flaunts a Silver colour model with curved edges.
The back can also be seen housing a quad camera setup with Hasselblad branding in the encasement.

Just yesterday, OnePlus confirmed that the company is going to unveil its OnePlus 9 smartphone series globally on March 23 at 7.30pm.
The company also confirmed that the OnePlus 9 series will make use of a custom Sony IMX789 sensor and will be “the largest and most advanced main camera sensor ever on a OnePlus device.”
