Camp K12, a Gurugram-based EdTech startup focused on building a global online school for K-12, has raised $12 million as a part of its Series A funding round co-led by Matrix Partners India and Elevation Capital.

The company plans to use the funds to expand into two new geographies and deepen its reach in existing ones by introducing the group class learning format. The proceeds from the current fundraise will also be used to scale operations and hire across functions of marketing, engineering, and product team.

Camp K12 connects students in the age group of 5-18 with teachers for live interactive online courses across categories such as coding and English.

Students have the option to learn one-on-one with private teachers, or in small groups with friends in Camp K12’s gamified online environments.

Founded in 2010 by Anshul Bhangi, Camp K12 offers an online innovation competition in partnership with Adobe for school students throughout the nation. It also provides courses on various topics which include mobile app development, artificial intelligence, web development python programming, game programming, among others.

Speaking about the company Co-founder and CEO of Camp K12 Anshul Bhagi said,

“We have laid the foundations for a global online school, and we’re ready to scale. My view is that an enduring institution in a crowded market of online schools will not be built through sales and marketing excellence alone, but through differentiated acquisition, engagement, and retention of customers. I believe in the power of community, and in network effects. We have a bold roadmap for social multiplayer experiences for our kids, in class and outside of class.”

Camp K12 also forayed into English learning as its first category beyond coding, with a two-year learning path for every age group.

Co-founder of Camp K12 Sandeep Bhagi added,

“We are able to establish our product leadership in every category and geography we have forayed into, be it India, Middle East, or the United States. We take pride in building a very loyal, happy, and satisfied user base of hundreds of thousands of parents and students who are looking at a quality online education at affordable pricing. This Series A investment will accelerate our expansion and we are beefing up our team with experienced Do-ers from Business, Sales, Marketing, Product, Operations and Engineering.”

Camp K12 also offers an in-house 3D coding platform “HatchXR” and a different coding curriculum from its India business to create delight among a consumer segment that has already been exposed to coding basics in schools and craves a different level of cutting-edge tech exposure.

Vikram Vaidyanathan, Managing Director, Matrix Partners India, said,

“Over the last 12 months, Camp K12 has specialized in coding for the K-12 category; they have now further expanded into English with a differentiated curriculum that empowers every child to publish a novel. We’re excited for the next leg of growth as we co-invest with Elevation Capital in this round.”

Camp K12 claims that its US business has grown two times month-on-month over the past three months. In the Middle East, Camp K12 claims to have registered three times month-on-month growth.

In the next six months, the company plans to add two new geographies and one new content category and plans to deepen its reach in each existing geography via a group class format.

Last year in April, Camp K12 had raised $4 million in a seed funding round led by Matrix Partners India and SAIF Partners.
