Clevai, a Vietnamese after-school tutoring platform for K-12 students, has raised $2.1 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Singapore-based Altara Ventures.

The round also saw participation from existing backers including Vietnam and SEA-focused VC FEBE Ventures and New York-based marketplace investment firm FJ Lab.

With the latest round of funding, the company plans to strengthen its live-streaming infrastructure and improve AI-driven personalized learning capabilities. Clevai will also press ahead with IP with the goal of serving more than 20,000 students.

Clevai offers math exercises, weekly learning lessons, live streaming, and more. The platform also provides assistance from AI to help students do additional and practical exercises.

Founded in 2020 by Tran Manh Thang (CEO) along with two others, Clevai claims to receive support from advisors from Harvard, Oxford, and Google for this target.

According to the company, its adaptive learning approach will analyze the learning history of each student and deliver custom learning experiences through timely feedback, resources, and pathways to ensure the best individual progress.

Clevai had raised $650,000 in seed funding last year from BOD Tech Ventures and two other investors.

As the pandemic forces students to stay at home and schools to massively adopt online learning, a slew of Vietnamese EdTech startups have raised capital in 2021. CoderSchool, which offers full-stack development, machine learning, and data science courses at a lower cost, has recently raised $2.6 million in pre-Series A led by Monk’s Hill Ventures. Likewise, several others including Marathon (online tutoring platform), Virtual Internships (a platform that redefines career development by reducing barriers to employment through industry-leading virtual employability programs), Educa Corporation (online English learning platform), and EQuest (a leading educational services provider in Vietnam) have raised millions of dollars in recent months.
