Weight loss story: “Here’s how this Merchant Navy officer lost weight with thyroid” | The Times of India

My breakfast: I take my breakfast 2 hours after taking my thyroid medicines so eat something accordingly.

I usually start my day with some lemon and honey mixed with warm water. Afterwards, plain cornflakes/ unflavoured oats had milk. I also add five overnight soaked almonds and 10~15 raisins to my breakfast. I also had some small quantities of fruits that were available

My lunch: Because of the nature of my job, I couldn’t afford the luxury of a nutritionist-curated dietplan. I just worked my way around dal, yoghurt, chicken, fish and meat basically whatever was available. However, I made sure that I didn’t exceed my daily calorie intake allocated for my weight loss. ( There are several free apps that will suggest calorie intake as per weight loss requirement)

My dinner: I had two egg whites and a bowl full of either chicken or fish.

Pre-workout meal: A handful of dry fruits.

Post-workout meal: I didn’t usually eat anything immediately after a workout unless I was really hungry and if I was I would have some fruit.

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): Well I don’t really believe in cheat days as such. However, I didn’t restrict myself during the monthly parties so you could say I would have my cheat meal once a month!

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I love plain yoghurt so if I come across any food that I don’t like, I put some yoghurt and salt in it. You can also find something that can make your food tastier just for you! That’s a big secret I unveiled!

My breakfast: I keep changing my breakfast options every day. Some days, I have poha, sandwich, omelette or porridge. Just one day a week I have parathas which is a weakness for any Punjabi.

My lunch: 2 wholewheat chapatis + a bowl of vegetable curry + raita.

My dinner: Just a glass of milk at night had with a rusk/ biscuit.

Pre-workout meal: Dry fruits including almonds, cashews, raisins, pistachios, walnuts

Post-workout meal: I like to have fruits after the workout

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): I indulge by eating pizzas, burgers on my cheat days. But, I do make sure I do double the amount of physical exercise that day to compensate for the excess calories consumed.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I didn’t really follow any specific low-calorie recipe. But there need to certain changes which you need to make in order to lose weight. The first one is to have lots of water for the whole day. Keep a water bottle with you every time. It will make you full and less hungry during the day. Secondly, have everything, as long as you control your portion size. Suppose you ate full-sized portions before, try to cut 1/4th or 1/2nd of it and cut down as needed.

My breakfast: I start my day by having a glass of lukewarm lemon water (had within 30 minutes post waking up). My breakfast usually consists of either oatmeal with skimmed milk+ fruits (apples/ blueberries/ banana) or besan chilla/ jowar/ bajra roti with any curry made in less oil.

My lunch: Lunch is usually brown rice with dal/ vegetable curry/fish curry. I also love eating traditional Assamese dishes such as Khar which is an alkaline dish. Alkaline food substances and acidic foods help maintain a healthy balance in the body.

Post-workout meal: I usually have my breakfast after my workout

I indulge in (What do you eat on your cheat days):For cheat days, I like to have food from outside or junk food. Can be anything like chole bhature, paranthas, chicken biryani, momos.

Low- calorie recipes I swear by: Nothing specific, but always try to choose low-calorie fruits and vegetables.
