AP govt to implement CBSE system for classes 1 to 7 in its schools from 2021-22

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to implement CBSE system for classes 1 to 7 in all its schools from the 2021-22 academic year.

The system will be gradually increased year-wise from classes 8 to 10. By the year 2024, all classes from 1 to 10 will be under CBSE, a release from the Chief Ministers Office said.

The move comes amid ongoing litigation in the Supreme Court against the conversion of all government schools, from classes 1 to 6, to English medium, a move that has caused widespread resentment.

The latest decision by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to switch over to the Central Board of Secondary Education is seen as a move on the sly to completely do away with the Telugu medium of education.

Under CBSE, Telugu is only a subject taught and the curriculum will be in Hindi or English medium. The government did not specify whether it will do away with the state syllabus completely or introduce CBSE system parallel to it.

While Principal Secretary (School Education) B Rajsekhar did not respond to queries on the issue, a senior official in the department told PTI that introduction of CBSE system was “only a proposal.”

“This is only one of the proposals we discussed at a meeting with the Chief Minister on Wednesday. We have to study the pros and cons before going ahead, so no final decision has been taken in this regard,” the official said. But the CMO clearly said in its release that “the state government will implement CBSE system from 2021-22 academic year.”

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) Wednesday announced that the exams of classes 9-12 for the academic session 2020-21 will commence from March 19. Instead of three examination during an academic session for these classes, this year students will be taking only two exams — the first in March and final exams in June (for classes 9 and 11) and in board exams for classes 10 and 12 in May, for which the state education board had already declared the schedule.

“This year we could not take any exam due to the pandemic. But with the reopening of schools, it was decided to take two exams instead of three where one exam will be conducted in March and second or final annual exam for class 9 and 11 in June,” GSHSEB Chairman A J Shah told The Indian Express.

The GSHSEB has announced the schedule of these exams with the first one for classes 9-12 being conducted from March 19 till 27 and annual exams for classes 9 and 11 from June 7-15.

Also, the board has directed schools to frame question papers for the first exams only as per its instructions and format given to the schools. “The schools will prepare question papers depending upon the curriculum covered by them and also distribution of marks should be as per the board’s directions for annual examinations. Accordingly, schools can prepare the question papers covering 70 per cent of the curriculum declared by the board,” the GSHSEB stated in its circular issued to all district education officers.

Further, for internal evaluation of 20 marks, average marks of first and second exams are taken but this time since there are only two exams, the marks of first exam would be considered.

The GSHSEB in the beginning of this month has declared the schedule for class 10 and 12 board exams which will commence from May 10. While class 10 exams are scheduled between May 10 and May 20, class 12 Science stream exams will be held from May 10 to May 21.

Students from Class 3 to 8 of Delhi government and government-aided schools will not have to sit for offline exams and will instead be graded on the basis of projects and assignments, the Delhi government said Wednesday.

“Since no classroom teaching and learning has taken place at the primary and middle level, the formal mode of pen-and-paper assessment will be replaced by a subject-wise assessment of projects and assignments for Classes 3 to 8,” said Rita Sharma, Additional Director of Education, Delhi.

Schools were reopened in Delhi for students of Class 9 and Class 11 on February 5. For classes 10 and 12, classes had resumed on January 18 in light of the board exams.

“All the currently enrolled students of classes Nursery to II shall be promoted to the next class in the Academic Session 2021-22. JEE Main Day 2 analysis: Experts say exam easier than previous years, math can be deciding factor

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

The JEE Main for the BTech and BE exams remains easier as compared to previous years, claim experts. The ease was due to the option of having choices in the exam. However, in both morning and afternoon shifts, one section remained a bit tricky and experts believe that this has set a pattern for the coming exams as JEE will continue till February 26.

JEE Main LIVE updates

In the morning section, the chemistry was comparatively tougher with unusual questions from lab manual while in the afternoon shift, there were tricky questions in the mathematics section, said Saurabh Kumar, director academics, Vidya Mandir Classes (VMC). “In physics, in the morning session, three questions were asked from semi-conductors. This topic usually carries only one question. In the evening session, physics had three questions from the solutions chapter from where there is usually only one question. Further, in the morning shift, there was no question from rotations which is an important topic,” said Kumar.

Even as there were a couple of tricky questions in chemistry and physics, the mathematic section can be the deciding factor, said Ajay Kumar Sharma, national academic director (engineering), Aakash Educational Services Ltd. (AESL). “Students who scored well in math can get better ranks. While the overall exam was easy and the option of having a choice in exam gave students a respite, the math section was comparatively tougher. In chemistry too, there were some calculative questions. Most of the questions were from NCERT. Those students who would have participated in past year papers would find the exam easier.”

In the morning session’s chemistry, questions were asked from the periodic table, chemical bonding. In organic chemistry, there were questions from reactions, coordination compound, equilibrium, and solutions topics. In physics, questions were asked from the unit and dimensions chapter. There were more questions from class 12 than class 11. In physics, questions from modern physics and current electricity were asked. Other topics from which questions were asked include, thermodynamics, in math coordinate, calculus, determinant matrices, and quadratic equation, told Kumar.

Ramesh Batlish from FIITJEE informed that weightage was given to chapters of coordinate geometry, 3D and Vector, algebra. Few numerical-based questions required lengthy calculations in the mathematics section. In physics too, numerical-based questions had lengthy calculations but were easy. Physical chemistry was given more weightage as compared to organic and inorganic chemistry, as per Batlish.

The ‘Tamanna’ (Try and Measure Aptitude and Natural Abilities) test has been developed for senior school students by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi, under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Education.

“The test contains items on seven dimensions measured in aptitude testing i.e., Language Aptitude (LA), Abstract Reasoning (AR), Verbal Reasoning (VR), Mechanical Reasoning (MR), Numerical Reasoning (NA), Spatial Aptitude (SA), and Perceptual Aptitude (PA), along with technical manual, thereby, helping the students of Class 9 and 10 make a better choice of subjects,” she said.

The official said the DSEJ has taken the lead by being the first body to help students take the benefit of this test.

As the test is in its initial phase, the Counselling Cell has been asked to make proper reports after conducting the test so as to give necessary inputs to the agency concerned for its further standardisation if required, she said.

Winter zone schools are opening from March 1 and capacity-development of teachers is being done to mentor and guide the students.

“In the new session, this test will be used as a tool to facilitate students for self-awareness, academic choice making and understanding their aptitude for career decision making. It is to add that pilot testing of this test was successfully conducted in all the 11 zones of Udhampur district,” the director said.

Speaking at the successful completion of the two-day programme, DSEJ Counselling Cell head Romesh Sharma advised faculty counsellors to use the test as a complimentary tool for exploring and understanding the abilities of the students.
