Prince Harry has spoken to his father and brother after he and his wife Meghan Markle raised allegations of racism in the royal family during an explosive TV interview, a friend said Tuesday.

In the interview, Harry said that his father Prince Charles had cut him off financially and at one point stopped taking his calls, and he also described his damaged relationship with Prince William.

Harry and Meghan, whose father is white and mother is Black, now live in California after stepping away from royal duties.

The British monarchy has been rocked by the couple’s allegations that an unnamed royal asked how dark their child’s skin would be before he was born.

“I did actually call them to see how they were feeling, and it’s true Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father too,” Gayle King, a US television presenter and friend of the couple, said on CBS.

“The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive, but they are glad they have at least started a conversation.”

King said the couple were “frustrated” that alleged racism in the royal family had dominated the news agenda since the interview was broadcast on March 7.

“All they wanted all along was for the royals to intervene and tell the press to stop with the unfair, inaccurate, false stories that definitely have a racial slant,” King said.

She added that Harry and Meghan wanted “healing” in the family, but that Meghan had “documents to back up everything” she had said in the interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The allegations, which the royal family said would be investigated, have plunged the monarchy into its biggest crisis since the death of William and Harry’s mother, princess Diana, in 1997.

Meghan, a former actress, told Winfrey she was “naively” unprepared for life as a royal and had contemplated suicide while pregnant with their first child.

Harry had arranged for flowers to be laid on Princess Diana’s grave for Mother’s Day

Even though the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, does not live in the UK anymore, and has even snapped association with the royal firm, he still fondly thinks of his mother and remembers her in his own sweet manner.

On the occasion of Mother’s Day in the UK on March 14, he had arranged for flowers to be laid on the grave of the late Princess of Wales, as a tribute. According to a report in The Independent, a spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed this.

Princess Diana — who had died in a car accident in Paris in 1997, at the age of 36 only — was laid to rest in Northampton, in the grounds of her family’s home, Althorp House, the outlet mentions. The grave is located “on a tiny island in the middle of a lake”, and is visited by thousands of her fans every year, as well as her sons William and Harry.

Harry’s tribute to his mother comes almost a week after his and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview to Oprah Winfrey, in which they had detailed their harrowing experience during their time as senior royals in the UK, and their decision to leave the same.

Among other things, Harry had talked about his fears — of how his family was being treated by the tabloids — that of “history repeating itself”, alluding to what had happened to his mother post her divorce, when she was no longer ‘royal’ and did not enjoy the same security.

“You know, for me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you with my wife by my side because I can’t begin to imagine what it must’ve been like for [my mother] going through this process by herself all those years ago,” he had said in the interview, adding that he thought his mother would have been “very sad” and “very angry” at the circumstances created for him and his wife, Meghan.

It was earlier reported that Prince William’s three children — George, Charlotte and Louis — too, had made sweet cards for their ‘Granny Diana’ on the occasion of Mother’s Day, remembering the iconic global personality for their father, the Duke of Cambridge, even though the kids have never met her.

Meghan Markle Demands All Proofs in Buckingham Palace Staff Bullying Case: Report

Days after being accused of bullying the staff during her time as a frontline royal with Prince Harry in Britain, the Duchess of Sussex- Meghan Markle has legally demanded evidence against the Buckingham Palace’s probe.

The allegations against the Duchess came after her interview with American host Oprah Winfrey where she revealed controversial points about the royal family, accusing them of being racist.

According to Fox News, Meghan is currently on a target point of Buckingham Palace after the interview. However, rather than conducting an in-house enquiry, Buckingham Palace now plans to hand over the investigation into allegations to external investigators, a UK media report said on Sunday.

The Duchess wants to see all documents, emails, and text messages related to the bullying probe which began against her by the Queen, the report added.

Earlier this month, the palace had confirmed that a probe would be conducted after The Times’ published a leaked email from a staff member alleging that the former American actress drove two personal assistants out of the royal household and undermined the confidence of a third member of staff.

Our commitment to look into the circumstances around the allegations from former staff of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is being taken forward but we will not be providing a public commentary on it, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson reportedly said.

Several former and current royal aides who could not give evidence in court during Meghan Markle’s recent legal case about privacy against a British newspaper are expected to speak to the inquiry.

A PTI report mentioned that the complaint against Meghan dated back to October 2018 when an email was sent by a member of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s staff to a senior courtier. It was forwarded to the HR department, but the complaint did not progress.

In an interview last weekend with Oprah Winfrey, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a series of shocking claims around the lack of mental health support offered to Meghan and unnamed royals raising concerns about the skin colour of their mixed-race son- Archie. The duo revealed that these were the reasons behind their decision to step back from their royal duties, which they had first announced in January 2020.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members,” read a Buckingham Palace statement, days after the interview.

Toxic British Press Was Destroying My Mental Health, Says Prince Harry

Britain’s Prince Harry has said he stepped back from his royal duties because the “toxic” British press had been destroying his mental health, adding he had not walked away from public service. Last week, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth’s grandson and his American wife Meghan had made a final split with the royal family, and would not be returning as working members and would lose their patronages.

Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, sent shockwaves through the monarchy in January 2020 when they announced their intention to step back from royal duties and embark on a new life across the Atlantic. “It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down, there was a really difficult environment as I think a lot of people saw,” Harry said in an interview with James Corden, host of the “Late Late Show” in the United States.

“We all know what the British press could be like, and it was destroying my mental health, I was like this is toxic. So I did what any husband and what any father would do is like, I need to get my family out of here.” Before they moved to California, the couple had complained about the British tabloids’ treatment of Meghan, whose father is white and mother is African-American, some of which they said amounted to bullying or racism.

Earlier this month, Meghan successfully sued one tabloid for breaching her privacy by printing extracts of a letter she wrote to her father while last month Harry won a libel case against the same paper over a story which said he had turned his back on the military.

Critics of the couple, who announced this month they were expecting their second child, have said they are keen for publicity but only on their own terms. An in-depth interview they have given to U.S. chat show host Oprah Winfrey is due to be aired on March 7.

There was also disapproval of Harry and Meghan’s response to last week’s split when they said they were committed to a life of service. Some commentators contrasted their life with the duty shown by the 94-year-old queen during her 69-year reign.

DECISIONS ‘ON THE OTHER SIDE’

“And as far as I’m concerned whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away,” said Harry, who commentators have said was unhappy with losing his treasured royal patronages, particularly those connected to the military in which he served for 10 years.

“But my life is public service so wherever I am in the world it’s going to be the same thing.”

During his interview, carried out on a tour of Los Angeles, Harry told Corden that Netflix’s hit series “The Crown”, a fictional account of the life of the queen and her family, was “loosely based on the truth”.

“It gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that,” he said.

“I’m way more comfortable with the Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family or my wife, or myself, because … that is obviously fiction, take it how you will, but this is being reported on as facts because you’re supposedly news.”

Harry also revealed his one-year-old son Archie’s first word was “crocodile” and said the queen had sent him a waffle maker as a Christmas present.
